New foods for Little Man - I could use some help with this one.
Help! I want to broden his horizons with foods, safely. We are stuck on little squares of oven-roasted deli turkey and chicken (he adores these), freshly baked sweet potatos (love, love, loves these), apple sauce (need I say it), mashed potatos, bananas, oatmeal. I tried fresh peas cooked until soft and gently squished last night and he kept pushing them out of his mouth with his tongue and then dropping them on the floor...lovely. What foods did you feed your one years olds? What did they love? He only has two teeth at this point, but I want him to have more vegetables. He loves food of all kinds, I am just stuck in the preparation to prevent choking and I am drawing a blank. Any suggestions would be fabulous!

Note: The link to Lunch in a box was not correct, I have fixed the issue. Enjoy!

Finger foods for one year olds. That seems like a lifetime ago....with two teeth, they are really limited. My kids had alot more teeth in at that point, between 8 & 10, so I may not have had the same issues. Where they got the gift of early dentition, I don't know! I think a key is to give them things they can try eating. I know that I used a lot of Beechnut (cheaper than Gerber's) for meat, squash, etc. You could try steaming broccoli & cauliflower very well. It would be mushier than you would want it, but easy enough for him to gum. My kids loved the Gerber meat sticks in a jar! Also, canned peaches & pears that you could cube up for him, cottage cheese, stringers of string cheese, small bits of ground beef or turkey. There are some baby foods I would never give to them, such as mixed veggie combos, beans or peas. YUCK!! They tasted awful! But the carrots are good, & gives them practice with a spoon. Any of the baby food fruits were really good. Tofu is another one, you could also try finding some Blue Lake canned green beans (they are virtually stringerless) & cutting them into small pieces. I resigned myself to seeing hunks of partially digested food in their diapers at this stage. Don't worry too much about choking. As long as you are close by & they are not being piggy, choking doesn't occur too often. And can be handled with a quick swipe of the finger. :) Hope this provided you with some helpful ideas! Love those chubby cheeks of Elijah's!
