To make: heart shaped crayons...
The kids and I recycled our bag of broken crayons...I save everything that I think can be used for something else, even if I don't know what for yet at the time. We made heart shaped crayons for their friends for Valentines Day. Saying heart-shaped might be kind, it might take a little imagination to see the heart, but they turned out fun and cute nonetheless.
The most laborious part was peeling the paper off of the crayons...after that it went pretty quick.
I can't for the life of me find where I got this idea, I swear it was in a recent magazine, but I can't seem to locate it. Anyway, place the broken crayons in foil cupcake liners ( I found a package of 24 for .89 cents) and preheat the oven to 275 degrees. To make the "heart" place a piece of rolled foil between the foil liner and the muffin pan to form a V. Then place in the oven for about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before handling...then give out and color away!!!!
It's really neat how the crayons melt together to form interesting mixes of color and pattern. I had several brands of crayons that I used and some melted better then others. So a few of the hearts have a stripe of solid color from crayons that didn't melt. All in all, a very cool craft, easy and a great way to recycle and reuse.
We made these so early because we have to send them off to cousins on the West Coast in time for the holiday. We will still be making paper Valentines in the next week or so and I will share about those too when we get them done...the kids are going to have a fun, messy time with them too!
